Correspondence, legal documents, scholarly articles, editorials, news clippings, and photos, relating primarily to Senator Joseph McCarthy's accusation of Lattimore as the top Soviet agent in the U.S., charges of which he was cleared by the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee investigation under Senator Millard Tidings (1950). Half of the collection consists of official transcripts pertaining to U.S. vs. Owen Lattimore (1952-55). Correspondents include Alexander Kinnan Laing, Evelyn Nef, and Vilhjalmur Stefansson.

Evelyn Stefansson Nef, also known as Evelyn Baird, (b. Evelyn Schwartz, July 24, 1913, New York City-d. December 10, 2009, Washington, D.C.), puppeteer, author, Arctic explorer, researcher, librarian, philanthropist, and psychotherapist, was the wife of fellow Arctic explorer Vilhjalmur Stefansson. Vilhjalmur Stefansson was born on November 3, 1879 in Arnes, Manitoba, Canada. He attended the University of North Dakota from 1897-1902. He was voted the best orator in 1900, and also worked for the school newspaper. In 1930 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree, only the third such degree awarded. He then transferred to the University of Iowa and graduated in 1903 with a degree from the School of Liberal Arts. He next enrolled at Harvard, graduating with a Master of Arts degree in 1...
